Mr J Stone - Head Teacher
Sarah and Hannah delivered an introduction to Makaton Workshop to all my staff on a recent INSET day. Their approach was both professional and engaging with feedback from all staff being positive. The impact of this training has been felt across the school with some staff now taking further personal training in signing.
Whilst our aim was for the training to have a positive impact on specific high needs children, I have been pleased to see how all children have enjoyed and embraced the challenge of a 'new language' and how receptive they are to learning these new skills.
Mrs A Banwell - SENCo & Early Years Teacher
I have worked alongside Sarah in our early Years classroom for 5 years. It has been such fun and together we have supported all the children access their learning, including children with a variety of additional needs. Sarah works with huge energy and intelligence and it was her efforts and support that helped our staff embrace a total communication approach that enabled all our children to engage with their learning.
She taught us all to use Makaton - her lively, interactive training and continual support in resourcing and ideas for topics that used Makaton and CIP were invaluable. She helped us learn to sign songs for all our celebrations, ran a very popular Makaton club and created books and resources for all classes. She is a very clear communicator and makes learning to sign fun and memorable.
Hayley - staff member at Eden Park Primary School, Brixham
Thank you very much for such a fun day. I have really enjoyed learning all the signs to the songs we sing everyday. The children will be so excited to learn them.
Kate - Parent
I have a very lively seven year old daughter who has Down syndrome and Hannah has been one of her favourite people for over three years, first in her role as her Teaching Assistant and more recently as her Enabler. Hannah’s extensive Makaton signing is woven throughout her conversations with my daughter, invariably smoothing away her communication frustrations. Consequently, our daughter’s own Makaton skills are often noted as a strength at [her] reviews and assessments.
The whole family have found Hannah to be a fun, caring, positive and energetic person who we love having around. Apart from her signing expertise, I particularly enjoy Hannah’s inclusive and hands on approach to both music and cooking, which have brought much joy and engagement to my daughter.
